Stuff I'm Anticipating (That Aren't Australia)

Less than a week, y'all. The immediate reviews may not be amazing, but honestly, when were they ever gonna be? Stupid critics. ANYWAY. I really do want to see other stuff. Honestly. Here are a few of them.

~@~@~@~@~@~@~

A Christmas Tale looks glorious, doesn't it? An excellent ensemble in apparent top form, bitter heartwarming dramatics, FRANCE AT CHRISTMASTIME. All those things are cause for celebration. I also want to mention that I'm randomly excited by Anne Consigny, who was distressingly underrated in The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. I love the way her face... exists. She's very beautiful. [/off topic] I should see Kings & Queen before I see this, shouldn't I? I'm thinking I should. Right? Yeah.

~@~@~@~@~@~@~

Does anyone know when The Brothers Bloom is actually coming out? Last time I checked it was placed in the dead zone of December (pushed back from October!) but is that still happening? Because I seriously just want to see the picture already. CAN SUMMIT GET THAT THROUGH THEIR THICK, TWILIGHT-OBSESSED SKULLS, PLEASE? Rachel Weisz being funny! Adrien Brody and Mark Ruffalo playing brothers! RINKO KIKUCHI BLOWS UP STUFF!!!! Jesus effing Christ, people. It's release should be a national fucking holiday. I just wanted to remind everyone. *grumbles*

~@~@~@~@~@~@~

And lastly, Gus Van Sant's Milk would probably be, if Australia weren't happening, my most anticipated film for most of the year. When the trailer was released, I couldn't stop thinking about it. I kept watching it, and even cried a few times. It's like a punch to the sustained stomach. A film like this was always going to be resonant in today's society, and now especially in a society that can allow something as hateful as Prop 8 to pass. Alas, 'tis not my major concern about it... that would be that I'm not sure I'm going to see it. It's rated R, of course, so I need my mom to take me because I don't know anyone else who's nice enough to take me to movies occasionally. But I haven't actually brought it up with her, at all. I have this sort of tic where I just keep talking, and movies come up a lot, and I usually cover everything on my mind. Except Milk. I'm too terrified to even say his name around her. It's irrational and maybe a little paranoid, but I think if I bring something gay up, she'll bring my gay up, and I'm not ready for that yet. So I always end up just sitting there looking sad. Ugh. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to bring the movie up? And the first person who says "just say it" or the like gets hit with a chair. *screams in frustration, runs up to my room and slams the door, sulks*

~@~@~@~@~@~@~

So, is there anything you're anticipating at the moment?

Just say it. (You were asking for that.) I wish I had advice, but my life is in a similar state of horrification. So not much help there then.

A Christmas Tale is indeed rather effing good, indeed. (I think you meant to put someone's name in that paragraph... I want to know who!) I wish I could single out one of the cast, but they were all so good it would be dreadfully unfair. (Although I love Emmanuelle Devos generally and forever.)

IMDb (O Glorious Fountain Of Truth and Fact) says The Brothers Bloom is 19th Dec for limited release, 16th Jan for general- in the US, that is. God knows when I'll get it. [/whine] As for personal anticipation, I'm very excited for Four Christma- no, sorry, I can't get through that without calculatedly laughing at something I could have deleted. I'm most excited for Kate's double and Australia (which comes out on Boxing Day?! Craptastic.).

I WAS NOT ASKING FOR THAT.

*hits Dave with a chair, pouts*

LOL! I meant to say Anne Consigny. No matter how many times I proofread, there's ALWAYS something I miss. *blushes*

Yeah, it says. I just hope it gets released at all. What happened to it? Ugh. And Australia comes out that late in the UK?! I thought it was gonna be released, like, everywhere else on earth within a week of Wednesday, because it kept seeming like it. Fuckin' weak.

"Mom, we're studying the "changing face of politics in the 60s and 70s". Our teacher recommended we see the movie Milk so it would be REALLY, REALLY great if you could take.....Please." (j.d. bats eyelashes) Honestly, I'm so glad those days are far behind me. You know I would take you if I didn't live 1500 miles from you. I'm looking forward to that film and Australia.....go Baz.

The thought is appreciated, Mischa. :)

Also, I could totally bat my eyelashes and make the offensive successful if it weren't for my damn right eye being a bit swollen, lol.

I just got back from A Christmas Tale and to be honest, I was slightly let down. It's an odd beast. I didn't dislike it, but... Go see it by all means, though! It'll certainly give you brain food. And it looks great.

This is rather shaming, but I spent the entire film thinking Anne Consigny was Emmanuelle Beart. Then Beart's name was conspiciously missing from the credits and I felt like a right fool.

*picks splinters out of neck*

Uh, no mention of Leo + Kate + Sam + Kathy? That's the movie I'm most excited about this fall, just finished the book and it's heart-breaking and once again reminds me that while you are afraid of NYC and would never be caught dead given our Cloverfield-proneness, I would never catch myself dead in a suburb, and rightly so.

@Catherine: Aw, well. I like brain food. And I love French brain food. And I know I can certainly love French brain food AT CHRISTMASTIME. So. ;)

@Dave: I take it as a compliment to Ms. Consigny. (Béart is fucking GORGEOUS, no?) And at least you know now. :)

@mB: I'm excited for it, of course, but it's never been at the top of my list. I will definitely say that for whatever reason (probably Nina Simone), I thought the trailer was brilliant.

And I'm trying my best to forget that unfortunate business with the 300-foot tentacle space monster, thankyouverymuch.

I know that The Brothers Bloom goes wide next January. Which sucks.

I wanna see everything you wanna see, naturally.

Re: your mom, I...there's too much jumbled up in my head about that. :P I'd just say, "I want to go see Milk" and if she asks why, just say that you think Penn will win Best Actor and you'd like to see it before the Academy Awards.

I don't know if I'm eagerly anticipating anything coming out, J.D.

Oh, Taken, but that's in January. (Before you say LAME, I know. But you know why I'm seeing it.)

Other than that...eh. Even Australia doesn't look extraordinarily fascinating to me at the moment.

I'M SO HAPPY YOU LIKED IT!!!! WASN'T IT MAGICAL??? DIDN'T DU-NA BAE BREAK YOUR HEART WITH HAPPINESS??!! WASN'T THE ENDING AMAZING??!! WASN'T THE STORY SO NATURAL AND SPECIAL??!! WASN'T THE SONG CATCHY??!! OMG!!!

Nick Plowman said...

Oooh, I’ve seen Taken. I generally only get to see things I don’t know anything about, and never the things I am dying to see.

J.D. said...

@Nick: It seems like, don't it? *giggles like Poppy Cross, makes cute faces, squeaks*

@Caitlin: I wouldn't say "lame." It's cute, really. You'd see anything for your old man porn obsession! A.d.o.r.a.b.l.e. ♥

@Slayt: Hahahahahahahahaha.

@Nick w/ Blogger: Ugh. *hugs*

Also, I'd like to vent this here, because I went to the in-mall art cinema in my area today to see both The Duchess and Happy-Go-Lucky (OMG), and stuff relating to this post happened -- not only was the poster for Milk there in it's "coming soon" section, but they had random promotional material, including posters. PLUS, the trailer played in front of HGL. And did I say one word about it? No I did not.

I am a fucking limp-wristed coward.

why do oscar films have to be released so late? dammit!

J.D. said...

I know, right, Doug? Ugh.

Hey, I'll take the Old Man Porn any day over High School Musical. Egads. I still can't believe I'm about to sit through Part II.

J.D. said...

Well, um... so would I. MAYBE. It depends how many shirtless scenes of Zac vs. Liam Neeson there are.
